Opening Conference

 

Mission: The mission of MedLaw Project is to help ensure that the

children and families of Santa Ana and surrounding areas obtain and

keep their basic needs - for food, housing, education, health care,

safety and stability - by improving front-line health care staff’s

capacity to screen, identify, triage and refer basic needs legal issues.

MedLaw Project will further its mission by providing:

Direct Legal Services

Intake interviews conducted by LASOC health advocate/

paralegal at UCI Family Health Center (UCI FHC)

Free legal consultation provided to low-income families

who are served by the UCI FHC

Legal services provided include but are not limited to:

referrals, advice and counsel, extended services and court/

administrative agency representation.

Education and Training

Legal workshops for UCI FHC’s front-line health care staff,

medical students and residents

Annual legal workshop for graduate students in law, public

health and other relevant disciplines

Community outreach to educate the public about MLP

Systematic Advocacy

Identify and conduct advocacy on local systemic problem

or policy issue related to access to health or quality of

health services
